Women's Leadership Luncheon
February 6 at 11:30AM
Sizzler Restaurant (1461 Rimpau Avenue)
Topic: Your True Personality Color:
Our personalities are the basis of who we are, how we communicate, behave, and react. Knowing your personality style can help your relationships with everyone in your life, from your family to your partner to your friends and co-workers. Motivation, management, communications, relationships—focused on yourself or others—are a lot more effective when you understand yourself, and the people you seek to motivate, manage, develop or help.
Personality styles and their influence on human behavior date all the way back to Hippocrates in 400 B.C., when he identified personalities as Sanguine, Melancholic, Phlegmatic, or Choleric. Modern psychology and scientific study of personalities became main stream with Carl Jung in the 1920s. He said, “Everything that irritates us about others can lead to an understanding of ourselves.” Jung believed that people are different in fundamental ways, although we all have the same multitude of instincts driving us from within. What seemed to be most important, he said, were the psychological preferences for how we function. Throughout life, people acquire unique communication habits, patterns, and skills. Within the infinite variety of communication among people, predictable styles emerge. Most personality identification methods recognize four basic styles.
The first personality tests, developed in the 1920s, were intended to ease the process of personnel selection, particularly in the armed forces. Today there are hundreds of personality tests. Most of us have experienced some sort of personality test in the past and learned about ourselves. Knowing about your personality can shed a bright light on your relationships. You understand why you do what you do; what stresses you out and not your friend; why your spouse does certain things; or why your children don’t value what you value. Many times you have a co-worker who does not like to be interrupted, yet you have an open-door policy and feel that works best. Maybe you are not getting or giving information or appreciation in a way that agrees with everyone. This is because we all have different personalities and consequently, we all have different strengths, values and stressors.
An understanding of what another person values, what their strengths are, and how they prefer to communicate can lead to a more successful and happier life. If you are having a conversation with someone and your point is not getting across, it is probably because they don’t listen to the way you speak.
Join us Wednesday, June 5th at 11:30 a.m. at the Sizzler Restaurant (1461 Rimpau Avenue), where the Greater Corona Valley Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the City of Corona, presents “Your True Personality Color” as part of the Women’s Leadership Luncheon series. Our special guest, Cindy Holmes of Connecting U Marketing, will lead us through the process of identifying each person’s own personality color spectrum. Cindy will teach us some skills about how to identify and communicate with different styles. She will shed light on why different colors clash and why some always agree. You will learn how this knowledge can help you in your business and everyday life. www.CindyHolmesConsulting.com.
