University of Phoenix Criminal Justice and Security Career Symposium 2014 University of Phoenix® Southern California College of Criminal Justice and Security invites current and prospective students and local community members to a special National Police Week event. For more than 50 years, Police Week has been set aside to honor those law officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice. This event has been created to honor these brave men and women who have given their lives, while providing education opportunities for the next generation of law enforcement professionals. This event will provide current and prospective students, alumni and community members with face-to-face interactions with local, state and federal leaders in criminal justice to hear about important topics impacting our communities, and learn directly from criminal justice professionals about entering and advancing in these career fields. The event will include: ? Career Expo ? Attendees can meet with law enforcement and other criminal justice organizations at the Career Expo to learn more about available positions and the skills and education needed to enter and advance in these fields. ? Cybercrime Workshop ? Tracy Webb, senior trial attorney of the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, will lead an interactive presentation covering timely topics, including internet predators, digital reputation and cyber bullying. ? Coordinating LAPD and Mental Health Issues Workshop ? Michael Morlan, LAPD detective, will lead a discussion on an innovative partnership between the LAPD and Mental Evaluation Unit geared towards reducing violence during police contacts involving people suffering from mental illness. ? Interactive Displays ? Attendees can explore various displays including the Los Angeles Police Department Mobile Crime Lab, Narcotic and Grand Theft Auto display. ? LAPD Testing ? Attendees are invited to take the LAPD entrance exam. Check in starts at 2:30 p.m. in Rooms 304 & 305. No fee or registration is required for the exam.
