The CORONA Chamber, in partnership with the City of CORONA, will be honoring and remembering those 2,977 brave Americans who perished 21 years ago on 9/11. We invite you to join us on this week-long event.
A snapshot:
Thursday September 8 at 7PM - set up and placement of flags - Stand watch of flags placed on Thursday, Friday, Saturday through the evenings.
Sunday, September 11 at 5AM - begin reading names of 2,977 Americans and others who perished (not the terrorists); 8:15AM begin our official ceremony (if needed, pause on reading names); have ceremony until approximately 9:20AM, then continue reading the names.
Continue to stand watch through Tuesday, September 13 at 5PM and begin removing flags.
DETAILS Thursday, September 8, we will congregate at the Historic Civic Center, at 7PM to begin placing the flags in alphabetical order. There will be rows outlining the placement and we ask that placement includes saluting the American Flag (with the name of a deceased victim affixed to it).
(We are seeking as many church groups, volunteers, businesses to help assemble the names on to the flags, as well place the flags in numeric / alphabetical order the week prior)
Each day, we need two adult volunteers to stand watch for 4 hour shifts (from September 8 until September 13)
Sunday, September 11, 2022, we will commemorate and pay tribute to this horrific terrorism attack on America. We begin early, at 5:15AM to begin reading each name of those innocent individuals whose lives were cut short. At 8:15AM we will pause reading the names, and officially begin our program. We will present colors and have some speakers share. We will pause twice during our invited speakers' brief talks, once at 8:46am, and again at 9:03am, the times the two planes purposely crashed into the Twin Towers in New York. We will conclude our formal ceremony at 9:20AM. Then continue reading the names of those killed. If reading continues longer, we will pause to remember the 3rd plane that crashed at 9:45am into the Pentagon, and the 4th plane crashed in Indian Lake, near Shanksville, Pennsylvania at 10:03am. We will continue reading names until we finish announcing each person.
Our goal is to gather as many residents as possible that wish to participate. There is NO fee for this event, however, donations are absolutely accepted. We will have 2,977 American flags available for placement in the lawn of the Historic Civic Center, in rows.
The location for this event is in front of Corona's Historic Civic Center, at 815 W. 6th Street, Corona, CA 92882.
We recommend arriving early, registration, and flag distribution begins at 7pm on Thursday, September 8.
The official program with Presentation of Colors will begin at 8:15am, on Sunday, September 11.
On Sunday, September 11, there will be coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts available beginning at 7am.
If you wish to help, please text Bobby Spiegel at 951.733.1836 and/or sign up here. Volunteers welcome for both 9/11 and in proper clearing of the flags from the lawn on Tuesday, September 13 about 5pm.
