SMALL BUSINESSES: Google workshopGoogle’s free small-business workshops, aimed at teaching how to increase online profiles by setting up web sites, getting verified for Internet searches, and measuring web site traffic, are scheduled for Riverside and Corona.
Google’s “Let’s Put Our Cities on the Map” program began earlier this year as way to offer greater access to the Internet for small businesses through user-friendly frameworks that don’t require web design or coding skills.
“Google has taken a very sophisticated program and cut through all the things that seem difficult,” said Corona Chamber of Commerce CEO and President Bobby Spiegel said Friday in a phone interview.
The Corona Chamber is sponsoring a training during Small business week, on Tuesday, May 3rd at 5:15pm, “Let’s Put Corona on the Map” workshop in the Chamber’s conference room.
Participants are urged to bring their laptops for the hands-on training session by chamber member, Rebecca Spiegel, owner of Too the Moon and Back Social Media Management
Participants will learn to “put their company location on the World Wide Web through Google, and have it updated and accurate,” Spiegel said. “Then they can update as often as the want to -- post specials, pictures” and change information such as business hours, he said.
“We have found is that people are scared, or shy, or intimidated” by the idea of creating sites and using the Web as a business tool, Spiegel said. “We are working on trying to break through those barriers, and let them see how simple a task it really is.”
