Construction Progress by the Numbers

Construction Progress by the Numbers

What a difference a year makes! Construction of the Riverside County Transportation Commission's 91 Project is in high gear, with evidence of work throughout Corona. Motorists can see cranes and other heavy equipment in action, bridge columns rising from the ground, fresh pavement, new retaining walls, large mounds of fill dirt and miles of construction cones. This progress can be translated into data, providing a "progress report" for the community.

As of this month, 30 percent of construction and 97% of design are complete. The Riverside County Transportation Commission is using a design-build approach for the project, with design and construction activities being completed concurrently by one team, which is saving three to four years in project delivery time. The new lanes are expected to open in 2017.

A significant milestone was achieved in June, when the final property purchased by RCTC was transferred to the construction contractor. RCTC purchased close to 200 full or partial properties to make room for the new lanes and other project improvements.

Another major activity was the completion of the first project bridge this spring - the eastbound 91 to Interstate 15 bridge connector over the railroad tracks. This was the first of 32 bridges to be completed; 15 of the remaining 31 bridges are currently under construction.  Please see below for additional progress updates and take a look at the progress video.
